Why yes, this year’s been a dumpster fire….

So someday, the history books will talk about the year 2020, and kids will hear their grandparents say “WHEN I WAS A KID, I HAD TO ZOOM ALL MY CLASSES. IT WASN’T EASY LIKE YOU KIDS HAVE IT NOWADAYS!”

In the art world, art shows and fairs have all but disappeared this year (and already for the first half of 2021). We are shifting our businesses online…to virtual open houses, Facebook Live pop up shows…looking totally outside the box for ways to connect with our friends and customers.

Looking back on everything that’s happened since March, when I stopped traveling for my day job and started working from home full time, it all seems a blur. At the same time, it feels a little like Groundhog Day, and Bill Murray is going to wake up to “I Got You Babe” Every.Single.Morning.

I stopped going to my studio back in March when the lockdowns started, and didn’t visit again until June. I’d taken some art supplies home to work on, but it felt hard to get any creative juices going. I did some painting, but didn’t touch a pliers to jump rings for months.

It did feel good to be doing SOMETHING to be creative, and while I didn’t mean it to, one of my friends commented that the whimsical “towns” that I drew in the painting above looked like Coronavirus depictions.

This one’s maybe a little less sinister.

Fast forward a few months, and like most of the rest of you, I have good days, and days when all I want to do is stay in my jammies, curled up in bed. And some days, this year, that’s totally okay.

Take care of yourself…stay safe…wear a mask.
